EPOCH 9: Nyeri AB (FILTER) EPOCH 9 - Clean & Bright, All Coffee

Sizes250g, 2lb, 5lb

This coffee reminds us of: Nectarine, Cola, Blackberry Jam, Green Apple, with a sparkling finish of apple jam and sugary characteristics.

Our first Kenyan releases in over 2 years, these two lots selected by our Coffee Director and QC team come from a partnership with Cafe Imports that we have had for the last 5 years. Simon, our rep at Cafe Imports, is always working with Conor to bring some origins to Epoch that fall outside our normal purchasing / purchasing style. We received over 40 kenyan samples this year but these two lots from Karimikui and Nyeri hit the mark! They are bright, juicy, with no hint of tomato/umami. Truly some Juice-Bombs.

Nyeri is situated between Mt. Kenya and the Aberadare Mountains, creating a perfect geographic and climactic area for coffee production. This area is historically the center of Kenya's coffee production due to the rich soil and fresh water moving through the area from the mountains. This region is home to the Kikuyu people, who have resided between the mountains for centuries. This area is rich with forests, wildlife, eucalyptus, bamboo, and rainforests.

Gatomboya factory is operated by the Barichu Farmer Cooperative Society (F.C.S.), which has about 1,000 smallholder members, about 900–950 of whom are active. The farmers grow on very small plots, and also tend macadamia, corn, bananas, and beans. Cherries here are sorted, depulped, fermented overnight before being washed, and then placed on raised beds for 10–12 days.
